say it with me: it doesn’t have to be “new” to be nice!!
I started sharing this on my Instagram briefly but my real life “rich auntie” is such a blessing. She wouldn’t say it about herself, but she is an eclectic fashion collector. She loves finding unique pieces. She is ultra creative with hands that can quite literally give shape to (nearly) anything. Her daughter doesn’t share our infatuation with the wonderful world of garments so she has very graciously blessed me with some great pieces!
Also, she keeps everything in immaculate condition in her walk in closet carefully organized for easy selection. Side note: your closet should be organized in way that’s EASY for you to 1. Find and 2. to WEAR YOUR THINGS. Got it? If you need help, I’m available—seriously.
Anyway, she has these great stories for each piece too. “I wore this here… I hunted for this there… We were traveling and I picked this up…. I wore this once when I was your age…” I need to start recording her stories so I can carry them with me. Clothes tell a story of their own but when inheriting different pieces, there’s a narrative already being told.
So let’s get into it (ya)
She gave me this suede corset after (I think) wearing it once.
She told me to “feel beautiful in it”. CHECK.
I love all the intricate details on this corset. The closures are all hook and eyes. It’s buttery soft with these ribbon straps. The back hem is shaped with a curve to flatter the waist while the front comes down in a V shape. Because the fit was so snug, I wanted to pair it with a wider pant leg to balance shape.
My pants are high waisted so I left the corset unhooked from the waist down. Visually, it creates really flattering shapes on the body.
This floor length fur is also a gift from her. My uncle purchased it for her as an anniversary gift (I think – smh @ my memory) and bestowed it upon me. She said it had gotten too heavy for her and too warm.
To be fair, I did make it clear I would provide it with a good home š And stick around, it’s VERY cold out and I will be wearing this. Stay tuned for ways.
The pants are thrifted from the Goodwill !
I can’t say it enough, but practice some patience and go support your local thrift stores!
My tip for pants (when there isn’t a fitting room), wear leggings or something you can slip pants over to get an idea of fit. You can also hold them up to waist (closed) and see if the side seams are in fact on either side of your hips. Hold the pant leg formed around your thigh to get an idea of the circumference. Check the size and make your best guest. And worst case, find items that are a little big and get the tailored!!!
I literally found these great shoes a few hours before dinner at Macy’s on sale! I took the opportunity to have even more fun with this look and wrap the laces of the shoes around the hem of my pants giving it this great cinched effect. Shoutout to my brother for the gift card!
Accessorize!
This mini beaded bag was actually a welcome guest gift I received at a wedding in India!! Definitely one of the most life changing travels. More to come on that trip soon!
The earring are vintage clip ons I found at an estate sale yeeeaaaaarrrrrrs ago. I want to have the clips changed posts because after about an hour, my ear lobe was not having it. I actually unclipped them during dinner to give myself a little break.
